I am grateful to all who helped decorate our church so beautifully, especially Kathleen Welsh and her clan, as well as Ted and Ann Phillips. How blessed we have been with our choirs and cantors!! Sister Pat and Thom Bercik are to be thanked, as well as the instrumentalists and the Hilal String Quartet. Thanks also to those faithful regulars: the altar servers, Lectors, ushers and Eucharistic Ministers. Lastly, I am grateful for the many cards and gifts that you have given me this Christmas. ST. SCHOLASTICA PARISH HISTORY
You can pick up your copy of the parish history in the Duch Pastoral Center after all Masses this weekend. Centennial Patrons receive a complimentary copy and extra copies are available for purchase. The cost is $35.You may also pick up or purchase the book during regular business hours at the Parish Office on weekdays. The beautifully illustrated book makes a wonderful present for those with a special connection to our parish.
EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
The Diocese of Pittsburgh is celebrating the Year of St. Paul in 2008-2009 with Eucharistic adoration in each parish. St. Scholastica's participation in this diocese-wide observance will begin with evening prayer and Benediction at 7 p.m. on Monday, January 5th and conclude at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, January 6th. All are encouraged to come to church and pray before the Blessed Sacrament during these hours. We need at least one worshiper present at all times through the night, and would appreciate several parishioners being present. Please consider committing to spend a scheduled hour of adoration by signing up in the church vestibule.
HOPE FOR HAITI
The Hope for Haiti Group will meet in the Pastoral Center, Wed., Jan.7, 7:30pm. All are welcome to attend.
PANCAKE AND SAUSAGE BREAKFAST
Next Sunday, Jan. 11, will be the annual Pancake and Sausage Breakfast. Regular Serving is $3.50. Please join us in the school cafeteria from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
MARCH FOR LIFE
Reservations are being taken for the January 22nd bus to the MARCH FOR LIFE in Washington, D.C. $35 pays for the bus trip and breakfast. The bus will leave from St. Scholastica's at 12:15 a.m. for the one day trip. The cost is $35. Call Mary Catherine Scanlon to ask about a family rate. (412-781-6550).

HURT, BRUISED, OR ANGRY?????
A LISTENING SESSION
Have you suffered a personal hurt from a representative of the Church/Parish? Have you been dismayed by the pedophilia scandal, or does the institutional church seem to you to be out of touch? Does it seem that the Church doesn't want you? Come to this session to be heard. Fr. Ken White, Sr. Pat Baker and Andy Bechman will be there to listen to you about your difficulties with the Church. Come on Tuesday, January 20th at 7:30 in the Pastoral Center.
ST. ANTHONY SCHOOL AND DePAUL SCHOOL FOR HEARING AND SPEECH
The Pittsburgh Diocese is home to two nationally recognized educational programs for children with special needs. A second collection to benefit these two organizations will be taken the weekend of January 17th and 18th at all the Masses. Your generosity will forever improve the lives of these students and their families.
DR. KING MASS AND PROGRAM
Join Bishop David Zubik for the annual Dr. King Mass and Program on Sunday, January 11th, 12:00 (noon) at St. Paul Cathedral. The annual event honors the life and vision of Dr. King and is sponsored by the parish's Race and Reconciliation Dialogue Group in collaboration with the Office for Black Catholic Ministries. The program & refreshments will follow the Mass in the Cathedral's social hall.
BAPTISMAL PREPARATION
A preparation session for the parents of children who are scheduled to be baptized in the parish will be held on Monday evening, January 26, at 7:30 in the parish office. The session will provide parents an opportunity to reflect upon the meaning of the sacrament and to walk through the ceremony itself. Baptisms are normally celebrated on the second and fourth Sundays of each month. Parents should note, however, that baptisms are not celebrated during Lent. February 22 is the last day for baptisms before Lent this year.
RCIA UPDATE
With joy we announce that two people have decided to join our community through the RCIA this year. Gary Wiant will be entering the order of catechumens as he prepares for baptism, and Heather Marie Fuller, a baptized Christian, is preparing to be received into full communion with the Catholic Church. The parish will recognize their decision in a Rite of Acceptance and Welcoming that will be held during the 11 a.m. Mass on Sunday, January 18. During the Rite, Heather and Gary will declare their intention to join the Church, and the parish will welcome them. Please pray for our candidates, and plan to meet them at the Welcome Breakfast that follows the Mass on the 18th. At the Breakfast, there will also be information available about the various ministries associated with the RCIA. Please stop by and consider whether God is calling you to participate in this wonderful work.
