OUR MISSION, CONDUCTED BY FR JIM SICHKO HAS NOT ENDED.

IT IS ONLY BEGINNING!

Fr. Jim's inspirational preaching, singing and story telling has ended. However, his challenging words should inspire us to "go out on mission" to live the words of Jesus Christ, and to invite others to join us in worship and in lived-faith.

Thanks to Fr. Jim. Thanks to the many parishioners who packed our church every night for four nights. Thanks to everyone who helped make this mission successful.

MASS TIME CHANGE!

The Mass time for Saturday Vigil Mass changes on November 10, 2007 to 5:00 p.m.

MINISTRY OF PRAISE

In preparation for a new prayer list, we are inviting all parishioners to place their petitions for prayers in the "Ministry of Praise" boxes in the vestibules of the church. We use no last names. If you would like to pray, please write your name and address on paper and place the paper in the box. We will mail you a prayer list. We pray on our own time in our own homes at our own convenient times. We have no meetings. We just pray!

BULLETIN CONNECTION

Radio and television evangelists will often turn to Scripture and use it as a proof text to make certain points. In doing so, they ignore some of the inherent contradictions that exist in the biblical text. So how do Catholics understand the reference in today's second Letter to Timothy which says, "All Scripture is inspired by God"?

For starters, we do not believe in a literal interpretation of the Bible. The Bible is first and foremost a theological document which speaks of our relationship with God and God's relationship with humankind. The bible is certainly not a scientific treatise, or even necessarily a history book, although we can find historical events in it.

God's inspiration of the biblical text is revelation, and in that revelation God shows that he is one who acts. Our God is not a distant, uncaring God, but one who interacts with humankind. Today's Gospel says as much: "Will not God then secure the rights of his chosen ones?"

RECYCLE YOUR OLD SNEAKERS!

Surely you have some old sneakers waiting to be thrown away.  Girl Scout Troop 86 is collecting old tennis shoes to be recycled into usable material for playgrounds.  A collection box will be place in the back of church next weekend and the collection will continue until November 9th.  Put those old shoes to good use.  (Please- no cleats.) 

AQUINAS GUILD NEWS

Steeler Tickets and More up for Auction! Two items from the "Autumn Song" luncheon are available for bidding in a silent auction format in the Pastoral Center after all Masses this weekend:

1.  Two tickets to the Steelers vs. Miami Monday night game on Nov. 26. 

2.  Two hours of playing time from the band "Shadows", a trio of keyboard, guitar and bass. Their fabulous dance music spans from the 40's through the 90's. This $300-400 value would be a fantastic addition to any upcoming party or gathering.

Bidding sheets will be available at the Parish Expo in the Pastoral Center after all Masses. If you are unable to bid in person for either or both of these, please call Bernie Bonessa with your maximum bid at 412-963-0198. All bidding closes at 12:30 pm on Sunday the 21^st! Don't miss out!

CATHOLIC CONVERSATIONS

Join us this Wednesday, October 24, at 7:30 p.m. in the Pastoral Center when we invite Dr. Christina Astorga to St. Scholastica. Dr. Astorga is from the Philippines, where she was the first woman and the first layperson to serve as chairperson of the theology department at the Jesuit university in Manila. She was recently named director of the Spiritan Center for the Study of Catholic Social Thought at Duquesne. "Catholic Conversations" aims at informative, engaging, and participatory talk. The session will begin as an interview and develop (we hope) into something more like a conversation. Those who attend will be invited to take part. There is no fee or registration.

PGHFaith

Our Parish Group for Handing on the Faith (PGHFaith) is a group of adults who are attending to our own spiritual growth so that we might better pass our faith on to the young people in our community. Our next meeting is next Sunday, October 28, at 10 a.m. in Marsico Library when we consider the topic: "Torture: Where Do We Draw the Line?"

SACRAMENTS

INFANT BAPTISM is celebrated at noon on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month. Please make arrangements with the parish secretary at least 2 weeks prior to the desired date.

ADULT BAPTISM The R.C.I.A. program sees to the needs of adults who wish to become Catholic. Call the pastor for information.

RECONCILIATION (CONFESSION) is celebrated on Saturday, after 9:00 a.m. Mass and after Saturday evening Mass, and also by appointment.

EUCHARISTIC LITURGY SCHEDULE:

Weekday Masses: Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m.

Saturday Morning - 9:00 a.m.

Weekend Masses: Saturday Evening 6:00 p.m.

Sunday - 7:30, 9:00, 11:00

HOLY EUCHARIST is available for those who are sick and confined to home. Call the parish office and we will bring the Eucharist to you.

ANOINTING OF THE SICK is available for those who are chronically or seriously ill. Call the parish office. A service for Anointing of the Sick will be conducted annually.

MARRIAGE Anyone who wishes to marry should contact the pastor at least six months prior to the desired date. Anyone who is married in a civil ceremony and wishes to sacramentalize the marriage should contact the pastor. Anyone planning to celebrate their 25th or 50th anniversary should contact the parish office well in advance of the desired date.

HOLY ORDERS Please call the pastor if you feel you might be called to the priesthood or the diaconate.

NEW PARISHIONERS ARE MOST WELCOME! Please call the pastor. He would like to welcome you.

INACTIVE CATHOLICS Baptized Catholics who have not been practicing their faith are most welcome to return to the Church. Please call the pastor at your convenience.
