TO ALL ALTAR SERVERS
There will be a brief mandatory meeting of all altar servers with Father Duch to discuss current Mass procedures. All servers must attend one of these sessions.
November 17 - after the 5 pm Mass
November 18 - after the 11 am Mass
ADVENT WREATH VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
It will soon be time to light the candles on the Advent Wreath. Volunteers are needed for lighting them during the weekend liturgies. Advent begins the weekend of December 1st and 2nd. Interested volunteers, please check the volunteer sign-up book in the back of the church and sign up by Nov. 18th.
BLOOD DRIVE
There will be a Blood Drive next Sunday, November 25th, 8am to 1pm in the St. Scholastica Pastoral Center. If you are at least 17 years old, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, and are in good health, then you are most likely eligible to give blood. In about an hour (the actual donation only takes 10 minutes) you will save a life. Blood cannot be manufactured and it is perishable. Please give blood and ensure a safe and adequate blood supply for area patients. Please contact JoAnn Liebert at 412-767-4248.
CHRISTMAS CARDS
Help the Pro-Life movement. Buy Christmas Cards from People Concerned for The Unborn Child. The new 2007 Christmas card depicts Jesus asleep in the manger The inside inscription reads "He is born as a gentle babe to bring our hearts His gift of Love." A set of ten cards may be purchased for $6 by calling Mary Catherine Scanlon at 412-781-6550.

YOUTH MINISTRY HAPPENINGS:
Tues. November 20th Shopping for the needy! Join us as we head out to Ross Park Mall and buy toys for needy children. Meet at the ministry center at 1:00. Bring $5.00 for shopping and additional money for dinner. Return around 7PM. Grades 8-12. Adult chaperones needed.
Monday, November 26~Join us for lunch and a movie at the PGH MILLS. Bring $ for movie and lunch. Meet at noon at the food court. Grades 6-12 and adult welcome. Movie will be decided upon based on what is playing on that day.
Saturday Dec. 1 YOUTH MASS 5 pm. Singers and musicians report at 3:30
Saturday Dec. 1 join us at the PGH Mills from 10-2 as we sell tickets for Habitat for Humanity's 'Village of HoPE'.
Family movie night and potluck dinner Dec. 1st after mass in the pastoral center. Our parish is a family and YOU are invited, just bring a covered dish, salad or desert to share. Movie will be PG actual movie TBA.
AQUINAS GUILD CHRISTMAS LUNCHEON
THE Aquinas Guild will hold its annual Christmas Luncheon at noon on Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at the Pittsburgh Field Club. We are offering the following luncheon selections: (1) Stuffed chicken breast, (2) Pork medallions with Port wine cherry sauce, or (3) Sole Veronique. Cost of the luncheon is $25.00 and reservations must be made in advance. Please send your check payable to the Aquinas Guild to Mrs. Mary Smith, 304 Third Street, Apartment 2, Aspinwall, PA 15215. Members wishing to participate in our service project with the moms at The Rosalia Home can bring an item and indicate on the outside of the package the "size" and if it's for a "boy" or "girl" baby.
A CHRISTMAS CONCERT
Come to St. Scholastica Church on Sunday, December 2nd and start your family's celebration of the Christmas season. Noted handbell soloist Sue Garton will entertain with a concert of Christmas melodies. Sponsored by the Aquinas Guild, the concert will begin at 2 p.m. Mark your calendars now for this special event: both young and old are sure to enjoy the crystal clear tones that will resonate through our church.
NEW FEMINISM OR OLD SEXISM?
Our Parish Group for Handing on the Faith will meet this Sunday, November 18, at 10 a.m. in Marsico Library in the Pastoral Center. The topic is "Catholic New Feminism," and any interested adult is welcome to attend. The "new feminism" is a viewpoint among some Catholic women who think that 1970s feminism used a masculine model of success. Based in large part on Pope John Paul II's writings, it seeks to affirm women as women. Other Catholic women are not convinced, seeing the new feminism as a lot like the old sexism. If you are interested, you are invited to pick up "Redesigning Women," an article by Renee LaReau from US Catholic magazine. It is available in Marsico Library. (As you enter the Library, look for the low bookcase on your right. Copies of the article are there.)
CATHOLIC CONVERSATIONS
Mark your calendar for Thursday, November 29, at 7:30 p.m. when we welcome Fr. Radu Bordeianu to St. Scholastica. Fr. Radu is an Orthodox priest. Married and a father of three, he is an assistant professor of systematic theology at Duquesne. We may speak with him about Eastern Christianity, ecumenism, environmentalism or other topics. "Catholic Conversations" aims at informative, engaging, and participatory talk. The session will begin as an interview and develop (we hope) into something more like a conversation. Those who attend will be invited to take part. There is no fee or registration. Please note a change of venue for the November 29 meetingwe will gather in the Library of Christ the Divine Teacher Catholic Academy.
MAY THEY REST IN PEACE
Please pray for Rita Fleming and Anthony Napier who died and were given Christian burial from our parish this past week. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of Christ rest in peace. Amen.
BABY CLOTHING FOR ROSALIA HOME
As part of their Christmas celebration, the Aquinas Guild collects new items of infant clothing as Christmas gifts for the moms at The Rosalia Home. These items are given to the mothers and infants at their annual Christmas party. If any parishioner would like to donate an item, please bring it wrapped and marked with the "size" and "gender". The items can be placed in a marked box in the back of the church or given to an Aquinas Guild member by December 2.
