TODAY IS APPRECIATION DAY

Volunteers and staff from St. Scholastica Parish have been invited to the Pittsburgh Field Club today for a luncheon to show the parish's appreciation for the dedicated service to the people of St. Scholastica's. We are thankful to the staff and volunteers and we look forward to enjoying the afternoon with them.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION is scheduled for May 3rd at 4:00 p.m. Practice for the May 3rd Communion is scheduled for April 30th from 5:45 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. First Reconciliation: Saturday, February 2nd 8:45 a.m. until noon. First Eucharist Retreat: March 1st 8:45 a.m. to noon.

BULLETIN CONNECTION

There is so much joy in the statement, "The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; upon those who dwelt in the land of gloom a light has shone." We have sung and prayed these words since the beginning of Advent, so many weeks ago. Christ has come; he is our light. Ironically, sometimes it isn't darkness that needs to be overcome; sometimes competing lights can render a light source invisible. Just try to see stars in the night sky if you live in a well-lit city! Just try to see the light of Christ when there are such strong spotlights cast on some preachers and teachers. Paul writes about this problem in today's second reading, and he is describing the factions formed in the church of the first century! We still very much need his warning today. It is Jesus Christ we are to follow, not some media star or innovation or manipulation of the message. But perhaps we find his pure, simple message too difficult. It illuminates his Cross.

CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK

PROMOTING LIFE IN AN ELECTION YEAR

Pope John Paul II called upon Catholics to promote a "culture of life." Our political choices can be an important part of that effort. Our Parish Group for Handing on the Faith (PGHFaith) will meet this Sunday, January 27, at 10 a.m. in Marsico Library in the Pastoral Center for fifty minutes of discussion. Any interested adult is welcome to join us. The session intends to give us, as adult Catholics, a place to share our thoughts, our struggles, and our experiences as we try to make political choices that support a "culture of life."

Youth Mass and Family Movie and Potluck Dinner Night after the evening Mass. We will watch Sister Act. Rated PG. Bring a covered dish to share!

There is a meeting after Mass in the library for anyone interested in going to Appalachia this summer. The trip is scheduled for the week of June 22.

10:00 a.m. (NOTE DATE AND TIME CHANGE)~Pet therapy and music therapy visit to Harmar Village/Amber Woods. Middle school and high school youth are welcome. Meet us at the main entrance.

April 26th

Mark your calendars for our Second Annual Family Fun Run/Walk at Hartwood acres. Pets and strollers welcome! All proceeds benefit our mission trip to Appalachia.

AQUINAS GUILD MEETING

The Guild's first meeting of the new year will be held on Tuesday, February 12, starting at noon in the Pastoral Center.Sharing their recent experience in Italy, our guest speakers, Bernadette West and Judi Owen, will take us on a culinary tour of Tuscany. A short business meeting and a light lunch will proceed their presentation. All women of the parish are invited to attend. INFANT BAPTISM is celebrated at noon on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month. Please make arrangements with the parish secretary at least 2 weeks prior to the desired date.

ADULT BAPTISM The R.C.I.A. program sees to the needs of adults who wish to become Catholic. Call the pastor for information.

RECONCILIATION (CONFESSION) is celebrated on Saturday, after 9:00 a.m. Mass and after Saturday evening Mass, and also by appointment.
