CASINO NIGHT AT THE RACES

Christ the Divine Teacher Catholic Academy is pleased to announce the 5th Annual "Casino Night at the Races" Saturday, March 1. Join us for this fun-filled evening where you can socialize with friends and try your luck on filmed horseracing, poker, blackjack, and other small games of chance with the proceeds benefitting CDTCA. BULLETIN CONNECTION

If a desert town is lucky enough to have a well, as the town of Sychar did, that well is a hub of activity where people can meet, catch up on news and even gossip. Except at noon – no one goes out at noon in the desert. The Samaritan woman who arrived then must have been dismayed to see Jesus at the well. If she came to draw water at noon she did it to avoid the other women, and after we hear her story of five husbands and a live-in lover, we understand why.

What an unlikely evangelist she was! Jesus amazes her by saying he has water that can slack her thirst forever. He tells her he knows all her secrets. Bud did she run from him or keep her visit a secret? No. She ran to the people she had been avoiding and told them all about Jesus. They came to believe, first, because of her; then, as with all good evangelizers, their faith went beyond her. They came to believe in Jesus because they heard him for themselves. Who first led you to learn about Jesus? Why do you follow him now?

ST. BONAVENTURE BEREAVEMENT MINISTRY is offering a seven-week grief support group this Spring. We invite anyone who is grieving the death of a loved one to join us for this free series of meetings. An evening Grief Support Group will be held at 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. beginning Wednesday, March 5, 2008 to Wednesday, April 16, 2008. ADULT EDUCATION NOTES

Popular culture is our theme for the week as we welcome Rob Owen, TV critic for the Post-Gazette, to St. Scholastica for "Catholic Conversations" this Wednesday evening, February 27, from 7:30 to 9:00 in the Pastoral Center. PGHFaith has a similar topic this weekend, "Finding Inspiration in Popular Culture." We will meet this Sunday morning at 10 a.m. in Marsico Library. Bring along an example of pop culture (on CD or cassette, videotape or DVD) that inspires you!

A limited number of copies of "Lenten Stories from John's Gospel," a Catholic Update article by the late Fr. Raymond Brown, are available at the entrances to the church. The article provides rich reflections on the Gospels for the 3^rd, 4^th, and 5^th Sundays of Lent.

LENTEN FAMILY GATHERING

The Education Committee is sponsoring a Lenten Family Gathering on Sunday, March 2, from 5 to 7:30 in the school cafeteria. We will share a potluck meal of soups, salads, and breads. There will be a family activity assembling sacrifice beads to help us all, old and young, to focus our spiritual efforts this Lent. The children will undertake another activity while adults have some time to reflect together on our family Lenten practices and on how to present the story of the Lord's Passion to our children as they grow. There is a signup for the Gathering in the back of the church. Please sign up this weekend if you would like to take part or contact Mary Ellen Maher at 412-767-5863 as soon as possible so we know how many to expect. In addition to your contribution to the potluck meal, each family is asked to bring along a bag of Easter candy for the poor. All parishioners are welcome at this event—we are, after all, a parish family!

LENTEN DAY OF REFLECTION

As we pass the halfway mark of the Lenten season, it's time to reflect on whether our Ash Wednesday "good intentions" have brought us closer to God. Each year the Aquinas Guild provides such an opportunity by sponsoring a parish Lenten Day of Reflection which will take place on Thursday, March 6. Conducting this year's retreat will be Father Richard L. Ragni who will speak on "Purification After Death." The day will begin with Mass at 11 a.m., followed by a light lunch and a reflection by Father Ragni. All men and women of the parish are invited to attend. SACRAMENTSINFANT BAPTISM is celebrated at noon on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month. Please make arrangements with the parish secretary at least 2 weeks prior to the desired date.

ADULT BAPTISM The R.C.I.A. program sees to the needs of adults who wish to become Catholic. Call the pastor for information.

RECONCILIATION (CONFESSION) is celebrated on Saturday, after 9:00 a.m. Mass and after Saturday evening Mass, and also by appointment.

MARRIAGE Anyone who wishes to marry should contact the pastor at least six months prior to the desired date. Anyone who is married in a civil ceremony and wishes to sacramentalize the marriage should contact the pastor. Anyone planning to celebrate their 25th or 50th anniversary should contact the parish office well in advance of the desired date.

HOLY ORDERS Please call the pastor if you feel you might be called to the priesthood or the diaconate.
