PENTECOST SUNDAY

Next Sunday (Pentecost Sunday) we will again pray the "Our Father" in various languages to try to "be present" to the way it might have been when the apostles began praying in many tongues after having received the Holy Spirit.

Also, don't forget to wear red! Red commemorates the tongues of fire that came down upon the apostles on that day and filled them with the Holy Spirit. A whole congregation dressed in red, praying in tongues, wouldn't that be a beautiful testament to our faith?

MOTHER'S DAY MASS

Planning to attend the Race for the Cure on Mother's Day, May 11, 2008? If so, you are invited to join the St. Paul Cathedral Parish in Oakland for a special Mass at 6:30 a.m. in honor of all those touched by breast cancer, including families, survivors, care givers and those who have lost the battle. No parking is available at the church, but there is on-street parking and space available at the SEI Garage on Dithridge Street.

YOUTH HAPPENINGS!

Youth Mass Saturday May 10th 6pm.  Singers and musicians report at 4:30 for rehearsal.  We also need gift bearers and greeters!  Email Jamie if you can help.

BULLETIN CONNECTION

After any crisis, milestone celebration or big event, we usually wonder, "Now what?" Today's liturgy has that tone. The disciples have seen Jesus die, rise from the dead, promise he'd always be with them and then disappear into the sky. Today's first reading reveals a subdued group of men and women regrouping back in Jerusalem. Since we know what comes next, we may think we know the answer to their "now what?" The Holy Spirit will descend on them at Pentecost and their mission will begin. But the second reading and the Gospel remind us that we don't know that answer for ourselves. Not yet. Peter promises that we will suffer, but we don't know the details yet. Jesus prays all those centuries ago, not only for the disciples there with him at the time, but for all of us, for everything that will befall us and become of us. All three readings raise questions and portend danger. Only the responsorial psalm offers an answer: "The Lord is my life's refuge; of whom shall I be afraid?"

Please pray for Anna Marie Larkin who died this past week and was given Christian burial from our parish. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of Christ rest in peace. Amen.

AQUINAS GUILD MAY MEETING

The Aquinas Guild will hold a "high tea" on Wednesday, May 7, at their last meeting of the season. It will begin at noon in the Pastoral Center with an assortment of croissant and tea sandwiches, fruits and pastries on the menu. The day will include an informative presentation by Laura Kacy on the history and etiquette of tea and its health benefits. Members are welcome to bring guests but reservations are required. The cost is $15 per person. To make a reservation, send your check, payable to the Aquinas Guild, to Eleanor Liberatore, 18 Fourth Street, Aspinwall, PA 15215. Deadline for reservations is May 5. GENESIS COLLECTION

GENESIS OF PITTSBURGH helps women with pregnancy difficulties.  They offer help with whatever needs the expectant mother has: housing, continuing their education, counselling, medical, etc.  Next Sunday, Mother's Day, May 11th, people will be at the doors of the Church after Mass to collect for GENESIS.  Thank you for supporting this worthy cause.

SACRAMENTS

INFANT BAPTISM is celebrated at noon on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month. Please make arrangements with the parish secretary at least 2 weeks prior to the desired date.

ADULT BAPTISM The R.C.I.A. program sees to the needs of adults who wish to become Catholic. Call the pastor for information.

RECONCILIATION (CONFESSION) is celebrated on Saturday, after 9:00 a.m. Mass and after Saturday evening Mass, and also by appointment.

EUCHARISTIC LITURGY SCHEDULE:

Weekday Masses: Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m.

Saturday Morning - 9:00 a.m.

Weekend Masses: Saturday Evening 6:00 p.m.

Sunday - 7:30, 9:00, 11:00

HOLY EUCHARIST is available for those who are sick and confined to home. Call the parish office and we will bring the Eucharist to you.

ANOINTING OF THE SICK is available for those who are chronically or seriously ill. Call the parish office. A service for Anointing of the Sick will be conducted annually.

MARRIAGE Anyone who wishes to marry should contact the pastor at least six months prior to the desired date. Anyone who is married in a civil ceremony and wishes to sacramentalize the marriage should contact the pastor. Anyone planning to celebrate their 25th or 50th anniversary should contact the parish office well in advance of the desired date.

HOLY ORDERS Please call the pastor if you feel you might be called to the priesthood or the diaconate.
