WELCOME!

FR. KENNETH WHITE WILL BE THE NEW PASTOR OF ST. SCHOLASTICA PARISH. Fr. White is currently the pastor of St. Thomas More Parish in the South Hills of Pittsburgh (Bethel Park) where he has served for the past 20 years. Let us welcome him to our parish with open hearts and a prayerful spirit. Fr. White will begin his ministry at St. Scholastica Parish on July 7. Bishop David Zubik will install Fr. White as pastor at the 11:00 am Mass on August 3, 2008.

The Saint Scholastica Parish picnic will be at Squaw Valley Park on August 24^th. The first planning meeting will be held on Thursday June 5^th at 7:00 p.m.in the Pastoral Center. Anyone interested in helping is welcome to attend.

ADULT LECTURE SERIES

 

The DVD of the third lecture of the Diocesan Lecture Series will be shown Wednesday, June 4th, 9:20am in the Pastoral Library. Mr. Jim Towey, President of St. Vincent College, talks about his experience with Mother Theresa. All are welcome

BULLETIN CONNECTION

The excitement and newness of the Easter season and Pentecost quiet down now. Today's readings bring us face to face with our choice: Moses tells us we can choose a blessing or a curse, simply by choosing to obey or to disobey God's law. Jesus tells us we can choose a sturdy house built on a rock or a ruined house built on sand, simply by hearing and acting on his words or by failing to act on them. This is the season of discipleship. We have each been chosen by Jesus, as personally as any apostle was ever chosen. We have celebrated our call in the preceding season. Now it is time to live that call.

LITURGY: Mapping the Course

In the 1960s television show Lost in Space, the robot is constantly worried about Will, a young boy, and calls out to him, "Danger. Danger, Will Robinson." Jesus calls out in much the same fashion today. He warns that not everyone who cries out will be saved, and that we must desire to build our lives on the solid foundation that is the rock. It is like the old hymn:

How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord,

Is laid for your faith in His excellent word!

What more can He say than to you He hath said

To you who for refuge to Jesus have fled?

Fear not, I am with thee, oh, be not dismayed,

For I am thy God, and will still give thee aid;

I'll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee

to stand,

Upheld by My gracious, omnipotent hand.

This same type of loving protection is what we listen to in today's opening prayer: "Father, your love never fails. Hear our call. Keep us from danger and provide for all our needs."

COMMUNITY-MINDED

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

"Then the Lord God planed a garden in Eden, in the East, and he placed there the man he had formed." Genesis 2:8.

The beautiful 3-tiered park that was cleared out and planted last year by dedicated volunteers is in need of lawn care for this growing season. It is located at the south side of the Highland Park Bridge along Freeport Road, immediately after the bridge, before you get into Sharpsburg. Many have walked by it or seen it as they drive by in their cars. Many have expressed their gratitude for the restoration of the beautiful site.

If you could spare an hour or two, or more, to mow or pick up trash, please call Bob Condron at 412~781~1359. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

SACRAMENTS

INFANT BAPTISM is celebrated at noon on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month. Please make arrangements with the parish secretary at least 2 weeks prior to the desired date.

ADULT BAPTISM The R.C.I.A. program sees to the needs of adults who wish to become Catholic. Call the pastor for information.

RECONCILIATION (CONFESSION) is celebrated on Saturday, after 9:00 a.m. Mass and after Saturday evening Mass, and also by appointment.

EUCHARISTIC LITURGY SCHEDULE:

Weekday Masses: Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m.

Saturday Morning - 9:00 a.m.

Weekend Masses: Saturday Evening 6:00 p.m.

Sunday - 7:30, 9:00, 11:00

HOLY EUCHARIST is available for those who are sick and confined to home. Call the parish office and we will bring the Eucharist to you.

ANOINTING OF THE SICK is available for those who are chronically or seriously ill. Call the parish office. A service for Anointing of the Sick will be conducted annually.

MARRIAGE Anyone who wishes to marry should contact the pastor at least six months prior to the desired date. Anyone who is married in a civil ceremony and wishes to sacramentalize the marriage should contact the pastor. Anyone planning to celebrate their 25th or 50th anniversary should contact the parish office well in advance of the desired date.

HOLY ORDERS Please call the pastor if you feel you might be called to the priesthood or the diaconate.

NEW PARISHIONERS ARE MOST WELCOME! Please call the pastor. He would like to welcome you.

INACTIVE CATHOLICS Baptized Catholics who have not been practicing their faith are most welcome to return to the Church. Please call the pastor at your convenience.
