HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

To all of our mothers. May the Lord who blessed you with children continue to bless you with His love and the love of your children. We pray for you that you may enjoy this day with your families, and that your love for one another may grow day by day. Congratulations. May God bless you.

FR. ROBERT DUCH WILL BEGIN RETIREMENT ON JULY 7, 2008

Bishop David A. Zubik has granted permission to Fr. Duch to retire in accord with the provisions of Canon 538.1. Bishop Zubik writes in his letter to Fr. Duch:

"For nearly 44 years you have faithfully and zealously served Christ as a priest of the Church of Pittsburgh. Your willingness to accept different assignments is a testimony, over the years, to your pastoral concern and love for the Church. I take this occasion to express to you on behalf of the Church of Pittsburgh my profound gratitude for your priestly example and ministry. It is my hope that you will be able to continue your priestly ministry in accord with your own wishes and at your own pace. I am confident that in this time of retirement you will be greatly rewarded for your labors."

RECEPTION TO CELEBRATE FR. DUCH'S BIRTHDAY

Please make plans to join your fellow parishioners in wishing Happy Birthday to Fr. Duch at an after-Mass, coffee and cake reception following both the 6 PM Mass on Saturday, May 17th and the 11AM Mass on Sunday, May 18th.

BULLETIN CONNECTION

Today the Church sings, "Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth." All the stories of the Vigil and of Pentecost Day tell us that the Lord had already done that. The Holy Spirit descended on the disciples and they lost their fear and found their voices. End of story, right?

Wrong. This is the beginning of the story, and we're in the middle of it right now. So we can celebrate that the Spirit has already come, but just as sincerely we can beg the Spirit to come now, to renew the face of the earth today. The earth and all its inhabitants need renewal again and again. As the disciples did then, we must do now: lose our fear and find our voices. Only in this way will the Spirit be able to renew us and our world.

YOUTH HAPPENINGS

☺There will be a meeting for any teen wishing to volunteer at VBS Sunday May 18th at noon in the ministry center. If you are unable to attend this meeting, please contact the youth ministry office.

AFTER THE RACE FOR THE CURE

Or to celebrate Mother's Day, come to Central Catholic's cafeteria for an All You Can Eat pancake breakfast. The Central Catholic Viking Hockey team will be the hosts from 9 am to Noon on Sunday May 11. Tickets at the door are $8 for adults and $4 for children under 10.

GENESIS

There will be a collection for GENESIS today. Please be generous to the people standing at the doors of the church after Mass. Your donation will help a pregnant mother and her unborn baby.

HAITI

Last year, because of the generosity of St. Scholastica parishioners, several students were able to attend The Good Samaritain School in Haiti. We would like to establish a Parish Committee to continue to support the education of these students. Anyone interested in this project please come to a meeting Thursday, May 22, 7:30 pm, in the Pastoral Center.

SACRAMENTS

INFANT BAPTISM is celebrated at noon on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month. Please make arrangements with the parish secretary at least 2 weeks prior to the desired date.

ADULT BAPTISM The R.C.I.A. program sees to the needs of adults who wish to become Catholic. Call the pastor for information.

RECONCILIATION (CONFESSION) is celebrated on Saturday, after 9:00 a.m. Mass and after Saturday evening Mass, and also by appointment.

EUCHARISTIC LITURGY SCHEDULE:

Weekday Masses: Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m.

Saturday Morning - 9:00 a.m.

Weekend Masses: Saturday Evening 6:00 p.m.

Sunday - 7:30, 9:00, 11:00

HOLY EUCHARIST is available for those who are sick and confined to home. Call the parish office and we will bring the Eucharist to you.

ANOINTING OF THE SICK is available for those who are chronically or seriously ill. Call the parish office. A service for Anointing of the Sick will be conducted annually.

MARRIAGE Anyone who wishes to marry should contact the pastor at least six months prior to the desired date. Anyone who is married in a civil ceremony and wishes to sacramentalize the marriage should contact the pastor. Anyone planning to celebrate their 25th or 50th anniversary should contact the parish office well in advance of the desired date.

HOLY ORDERS Please call the pastor if you feel you might be called to the priesthood or the diaconate.
