RECEPTION TO CELEBRATE FR. DUCH'S BIRTHDAY

Please come join your fellow parishioners in wishing Happy Birthday to Fr. Duch at an after-Mass coffee and cake reception following both the 6 PM Mass tonight, Saturday, May 17th and the 11AM Mass tomorrow, Sunday, May 18th.

THE SECOND COLLECTION TODAY

Was to be split equally between four causes: Catholic Relief Service Collection, Church in Latin America, Church in Africa, Church in Central and Eastern Europe. In light of the crisis in Myanmar, 70% of the combined collection will be devoted to Catholic Relief Services.

YOUTH NEWS!

Just a reminder that Vacation Bible School is the week of June 16th. This year we will focus on Heroes of our Faith. Camp Helping Hand (for Middle School Students) is July 1,2,and 3. Youth must register for Camp Helping Hand by June 21.

Forms for both programs are available at the church entrances or you may contact the youth ministry office.

BULLETIN CONNECTION

One God. Three Persons. That's the doctrine. Scholars try to wrap their minds around it. Skeptics try to debunk it. Preachers sometimes try to explain it with illustrations of shamrocks or triangles. Today's liturgy does none of those things. Today the church celebrates God, who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Today we rejoice that such an amazing God loves us. We believe in the God "who is, who was and who is to come." We marvel that such a God wants us to be sons and daughters. The Trinity truly is a mystery, in the religious sense of the word. It is not a puzzle to be solved; rather, it is a truth to be embraced in faith.

LITURGICAL AND SCRIPTURAL BEARINGS:

Zooming In and Zooming Out on the Gospels: What Lens Are You Using? Lectio Divina

There is an ancient form of monastic prayer known as Lectio divina, or "holy reading," in which one takes a small piece of Scripture and prays it intensely. To describe it simply, there are four stages to this prayer:

LECTIO: The passage is read multiple times in a very slow and prayerful fashion, with periods of silence in between. One examines the sacred Scriptures so closely as to gaze upon single words.

MEDITATIO: This is when one tries to be open to the Spirit, listening attentively, and praying with that single word or phrase. It is sometimes referred to as "ruminating." As a cow chews on its cud, so we chew on the word of God, and finally find a way to absorb it more deeply and digest it. One may spend days or weeks praying with a single passage.

ORATIO: This refers to a conversational prayer, when we open ourselves up in dialogue with God. It is also a consecrated prayer, as we allow God to enter into our lives and places we have not shared with him before. We ask him to make us whole and holy.

CONTEMPLATIO: This is perhaps the hardest phase of the whole Lectio process, for it is when we quit trying to talk and fill ourselves with words; we still ourselves and simply rest in God. I liken it much to Romans 8:26-27, which says, "In the same way, the spirit too comes to the aid of our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit itself intercedes with inexpressible groanings. And the one who searches hearts knows what is the intention of the Spirit, because it intercedes for the holy ones according to God's will."

GENESIS COLLECTION

Thank you to everyone who supported the collection for Genesis last Sunday. We collected $1,311.75 to help women facing difficulties with a pregnancy. Babies will born healthy and secure because you cared. God bless you.

HAITI

Thursday, May 22, at 7:30 pm there will be a meeting in the Pastoral Center to discuss ways to help the students at the Good Samaritain School in Haiti. Please come and learn about the school and it's accomplishments.

ADULT LECTURE SERIES

The Pittsburgh Diocese has an Adult Lecture Series. The first lecture was given last January by Mike Clark from WTAE TV News. Mr. Clark spoke on "The Everyday Challenge to Follow Christ's Path". We are fortunate to have secured a DVD of Mr. Clark's lecture. It will be shown in the Pastoral Library, at 9:20 am on Wednesday, May 21^st. All are welcome to attend.

RESPECT LIFE COMMITTEE

The Respect Life Committee will meet at 7:30pm this Tuesday, May 20th, in the Pastoral Center Library.  All are welcome.

SACRAMENTS

INFANT BAPTISM is celebrated at noon on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month. Please make arrangements with the parish secretary at least 2 weeks prior to the desired date.

ADULT BAPTISM The R.C.I.A. program sees to the needs of adults who wish to become Catholic. Call the pastor for information.

RECONCILIATION (CONFESSION) is celebrated on Saturday, after 9:00 a.m. Mass and after Saturday evening Mass, and also by appointment.

EUCHARISTIC LITURGY SCHEDULE:

Weekday Masses: Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m.

Saturday Morning - 9:00 a.m.

HOLY EUCHARIST is available for those who are sick and confined to home. Call the parish office and we will bring the Eucharist to you.

ANOINTING OF THE SICK is available for those who are chronically or seriously ill. Call the parish office. A service for Anointing of the Sick will be conducted annually.

MARRIAGE Anyone who wishes to marry should contact the pastor at least six months prior to the desired date. Anyone who is married in a civil ceremony and wishes to sacramentalize the marriage should contact the pastor. Anyone planning to celebrate their 25th or 50th anniversary should contact the parish office well in advance of the desired date.

HOLY ORDERS Please call the pastor if you feel you might be called to the priesthood or the diaconate.
