Thank you for the birthday parties in honor of my monumental 70^th birthday. They were loads of fun, tons of delicious birthday cakes, and a wonderful gathering of friends. Thank you for the birthday gifts, cards and prayers. Pray that I may learn how to use two of those fairway gifts.

CHRIST THE DIVINE TEACHER CATHOLIC ACADEMY NEWS

CDTCA will host a Scholastic "Summer Reading" Book Fair after all Masses the weekend of 5/31 and 6/1. All proceeds will benefit the school library. Please plan to stop by after Mass and stock up for your kid's summer reading enjoyment.

BULLETIN CONNECTION

With today's feast day the Church turns a spotlight on the Eucharist, the body and blood of Christ, reminding us that the Eucharist is the "source and summit of the Christian Life" (Catechism of the Catholic Church, #1324). There was a time in church history when awe of the Eucharist turned to fear, and people rarely received holy Communion. Today, perhaps, is the polar opposite of that earlier time. We sometimes need to heighten our reverence and awe with regard to the Eucharist. This includes reviewing how we behave during Mass, and how we approach to receive holy Communion.

There was another time, referred to in today's second reading from 1 Corinthians, when people abused the Eucharist, not by lack of reference for the sacrament, but by lack of reverence for each other. A meal accompanied the celebration at that time, and rich people were eating well while others went hungry. We too, need to remember Paul's admonition -we are all one body, the body of Christ.

CHILDREN'S LITURGY OF THE WORD

This is the last Sunday this spring for the Children's Liturgy of the Word at the 9 a.m. Mass; it will resume in the fall. Judy Granato, who has led the Children's Liturgy from its beginning, is handing over administrative responsibilities to Natalie Gillespie. Judy has truly been a good shepherd for this ministry, and we are grateful for her years of faithful service. Thanks also to Natalie for taking on her new duties. Judy and Natalie will both continue as adult leaders. We are also grateful to the other adult leaders for 2007-2008: Mary Jo Dunlap, Maribeth Donnelly, Sue Goodwin, Jennifer Perkins, and Andrew Bechman. Finally, we are grateful for the presence of the parish children, who have been well-behaved, receptive, and eager to participate during the Children's Liturgy. It is a great privilege to share the Word of God with them.

THE FOX CHAPEL AREA CATHOLIC SCRIPTURE STUDY has completed their year long study of The Gospel of John. Twenty women from the parishes of St. Edward, St. Scholastica and St. Joseph met on Tuesdays from 1-3p.m. to enjoy fellowship and in-depth discussion of the scriptures. Registration for a new study, The Book of Exodus, will be in August with classes beginning in September. Look for further details and prayerfully consider joining this wonderful group of women who are journeying together in a deeper understanding of our catholic faith. DISABILITY MASS

Next Saturday, May 31st, at 6 pm we will have the annual Mass for people who live their life with a disability. Fr. Walter Ryzdon and the Diocesan Deaf Choir will be our guests. Parishioners are invited to attend supper in the Pastoral Center immediately after Mass.

ADULT LECTURE SERIES

The DVD of the second lecture of the Diocesan Lecture Series will be shown Wednesday, May 28th, 9:20 am in the Pastoral Library. Mike McCoy, former National Football League player, will present "Taking the Peace of Christ on Sunday into Everyday Life". All are welcome to attend.

SACRAMENTS

INFANT BAPTISM is celebrated at noon on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month. Please make arrangements with the parish secretary at least 2 weeks prior to the desired date.

ADULT BAPTISM The R.C.I.A. program sees to the needs of adults who wish to become Catholic. Call the pastor for information.

RECONCILIATION (CONFESSION) is celebrated on Saturday, after 9:00 a.m. Mass and after Saturday evening Mass, and also by appointment.

EUCHARISTIC LITURGY SCHEDULE:

Weekday Masses: Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m.

Saturday Morning - 9:00 a.m.

Weekend Masses: Saturday Evening 6:00 p.m.

HOLY EUCHARIST is available for those who are sick and confined to home. Call the parish office and we will bring the Eucharist to you.

ANOINTING OF THE SICK is available for those who are chronically or seriously ill. Call the parish office. A service for Anointing of the Sick will be conducted annually.

MARRIAGE Anyone who wishes to marry should contact the pastor at least six months prior to the desired date. Anyone who is married in a civil ceremony and wishes to sacramentalize the marriage should contact the pastor. Anyone planning to celebrate their 25th or 50th anniversary should contact the parish office well in advance of the desired date.

HOLY ORDERS Please call the pastor if you feel you might be called to the priesthood or the diaconate.
