A FATHER'S DAY PRAYER

God our Father, in your wisdom and love you made all things. Bless these men, that they may be strengthened as Christian fathers. Let the example of their faith and love shine forth. Grant that we, their sons and daughters, may honor them always with a spirit of profound respect. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen

DON'T FORGET

The Saint Scholastica Parish picnic will be at Squaw Valley Park on August 24^th. The first planning meeting will be held on Thursday June 5^th at 7:00 p.m.in the Pastoral Center. Anyone interested in helping is welcome to attend.

CAMP HELPING HAND

Register your 10-14 year old for Camp Helping Hand this summer. This mini camp is a great way to give you children the chance to serve others. July 1, 2, and 3 from 9-2. Adult drivers and chaperones are also needed. Adults may join us for one or all of the days! CHILDEN MUST BE REGISTERED BY JUNE 21. Call or email the youth ministry office.

BULLETIN CONNECTION

Here is an amazing statement: We are God's people, the sheep of his flock. To our ancestors in the desert God said, "You shall be my special possession, dearer to me than all other people." God speaks those words to us now. Really. We can hug those words to ourselves and know we are loved.

In an earlier Gospel passage, we heard Jesus call his apostles, choosing them to be his special friends, to follow him, to come and see where he lived. Perhaps they had some time to hug his call to themselves and feel special. However, in today's Gospel they found out what their call involved – they were given authority; they were given orders. Finally, they were given the bottom line: You got everything from God as a free gift. Now you are to give everything you can without expecting anything in return.

SCRIPTURE: CHARTING THE WAY

In Matthew's setting of the context for the mission of the Twelve, images of lost sheep and fields in need of harvesting are drawn upon. Herds of sheep and harvesting fields were part of the landscape of first-century Jews living in Palestine. Jesus uses these images for the Twelve as a means of communicating the enormity of the task of preaching the kingdom of heaven and healing the sick, the dying and the unclean. These images were helpful for Jesus' Jewish followers to better embrace Jesus' call to evangelization and discipleship.

In the first reading from Exodus, we hear how Moses and ancient Israel were challenged by God to "hearken my voice and keep my covenant." Over time, Israel would learn that listening to Gods' voice and living out their covenantal bond would be the key to building Israel into "a holy nation." God reminded the Israelites in the desert to draw upon their experiences of God for comfort and strength: "You have seen for yourselves how I treated the Egyptians and how I bore you up on eagle wings and brought you here to myself" (19:4).

Like the ancient Israelites, we Christians can draw upon our experiences of Jesus for comfort and strength. The mission of discipleship today still includes the primary task of preaching and healing. We too, as contemporary Christians, have an enormous task in front of us. We draw comfort and strength from knowing that Jesus empowers us today for this task just as he did with his original Twelve Apostles.

SACRAMENTS

INFANT BAPTISM is celebrated at noon on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month. Please make arrangements with the parish secretary at least 2 weeks prior to the desired date.

ADULT BAPTISM The R.C.I.A. program sees to the needs of adults who wish to become Catholic. Call the pastor for information.

RECONCILIATION (CONFESSION) is celebrated on Saturday, after 9:00 a.m. Mass and after Saturday evening Mass, and also by appointment.

EUCHARISTIC LITURGY SCHEDULE:

Anyone who is married in a civil ceremony and wishes to sacramentalize the marriage should contact the pastor. Anyone planning to celebrate their 25th or 50th anniversary should contact the parish office well in advance of the desired date.
