TRANSITIONS RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

a) Jamie Dillon will continue as our Youth Minister but also is the Director of Religious Education which includes also our 8^th grade Confirmation. Program.

b) Gina Musser will be our Program Manager for Religious Education.

A note from Gina: I am thrilled and excited to be the new CCD Program Manager. I am looking forward to working with Jamie Dillon to make our CCD Program the best it can be. I thank you in advance for your help and support during the changes.

Andy Bechman will continue with AE and this year will also have oversight for the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

CONGRATULATIONS!

Michael Ackerman, lifelong parishioner at St. Scholastica, has recently been accepted to St. Paul's Seminary in Crafton. Michael attended St. Scholastica elementary school and North Catholic High School before entering Duquesne University in 2002. He graduated with a degree in history and business and worked in Duquesne's admissions office from 2005 until 2007 as the Assistant Director of Admissions. Michael also attended Duquesne's Graduate School of Education having graduated in 2007 with a M.S. Ed. and taught high school at Riverview High School in Oakmont this past school year. Michael credits his family, his parish family at St. Scholastica, his altar serving experience, and past pastors for helping foster his vocation. Please keep him and all seminarians in your prayers and remember to encourage vocations in your own families.

☺Youth Mass August 31st. at 6 pm. Singers and musicians should report at 4:30 for rehearsal. We also need gift bearers and greeters!

PILGRIMAGE TO THE BASCILICA THE SHRINE OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION IN DC ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 27^TH, 2008.

The theme will reflect our diocesan observance of the Year of Saint Paul and our parish adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. We are trying to see if there is enough interest for our Parish to reserve a bus for the day. The cost will be $50.00 per person and would include a boxed meal and drink per each person during the trip home. If interested please call Mary Johns at 412-828-3078 with your name, phone number and the number of people attending. The bus can transport 55 people. If we do not have enough people, perhaps we can share a bus with a neighboring Parish.

THREE YEARS OF POPES

Dear friends, I am offering 3 free presentation on "1978 – The Year 3 Popes" at the John Paul I Pastoral Center, 9^th and Clay Streets, Sharpsburg (across the street from Madonna of Jerusalem Church). August 21 (Pope Paul VI); and October 23 (Pope John Paul II). 7:30 to 9:00 p.m.

Thirty years ago the Catholic Church witnessed the death of Pope Paul VI, the election of Pope John Paul I, 33 short days later his sudden death, and then the shocking election of Pope John Paul II, the first non-Italian pope in 455 years. Father Frank Almade, administrator of the Catholic Community in Sharpsburg, is offering three presentation of these Church leaders. Thursday, Aug. 21, on Pope Paul VI: Shepherd of Vatican II; Thursday, Sept. 25, on Pope John Paul I: The Smiling Pope; and Thursday, Oct. 23, on Pope John Paul II: Visitor from the East. Presentations from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m., with time for questions and discussion. John Paul I Pastoral Center, 9^th and Clay Streets, Sharpsburg, across the street from Madonna of Jerusalem Church. Free and open to all.

SACRAMENTS

INFANT BAPTISM is celebrated at noon on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month. Please make arrangements with the parish secretary at least 2 weeks prior to the desired date.

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN BECOMING A CATHOLIC? R.C.I.A. is the process which enables adults to become initiated into the Church. Call the pastor for information.

RECONCILIATION (CONFESSION) is celebrated at St. Scholastica Parish on Saturday, after 9:00 a.m. Mass. For your convenience the parishes in our cluster have the following opportunities for reconciliation:

St. Joseph Parish in O'Hara has Saturday reconciliation from 3:30-4:00.

Madonna of Jerusalem has reconciliation on Wednesday evening from 5:30-6:45 and Saturday from 3:00-4:00 p.m.

HOLY EUCHARIST is available for those who are sick and confined to home. Call Sister Marilyn for assistance.

ANOINTING OF THE SICK is available for those who are chronically or seriously ill. Call the parish office. A service for Anointing of the Sick will be conducted annually.

MARRIAGE Anyone who wishes to marry should contact the pastor at least six months prior to the desired date. Anyone who is married in a civil ceremony and wishes to sacramentalize the marriage should contact the pastor. Anyone planning to celebrate their 25th or 50th anniversary should contact the parish office well in advance of the desired date.

HOLY ORDERS Please call the pastor if you feel you might be called to the priesthood or the deaconate.
