TERRI'S DAY, MARCH, 31^ST

Monday, March 31st, is a "Day of Prayer and Remembrance for Terri Schnindler Schiavo and All of Our Vulnerable Brothers and Sisters". There will be a talk at 7:30pm on the dignity of every human life, the ethical demands of caring for the weak and vulnerable, and the difficult medical decisions that can arise. Documents from the Pennsylvania Catholic Conference on Power of Attorney and End of Life Decisions will be available. All are welcome.

PROTECTING GOD'S CHILDREN WORKSHOP

Anyone who serves in a volunteer capacity in our parish and/or school is required to register on the Diocesan On Line Database. As part of the registration process you are required to attend the "Protecting God's Children Workshop". If you have not completed this segment of the process, we are offering the workshop at St. Scholastica on Thursday, April 10 at 6:30 p.m. in the Pastoral Center. To register for this workshop go to www.vitrus.org. Only online registration will be taken and seating is limited.

BABY NEEDS

BULLETIN CONNECTION

In today's Gospel we read how the apostle Thomas doubted the story the others told him of seeing Jesus alive. Though Jesus seems to chastise Thomas for his doubts, they actually serve to underscore again the magnitude of the miracle of the resurrection. Why would anyone believe such a story without seeing proof with their own eyes.? Yet that is what all of us are asked to do. Jesus even praises us: "Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed."

Do we deserve that praise? Is it true that we have believed without seeing the risen Lord for ourselves? How has our faith in Jesus affected us? How has his resurrection made our lives new? Jesus is truly risen from the dead. Do we act like we believe this? Do we live as his disciples?

YOUTH HAPPENINGS

Appalachia Collection~Youth who will be participating in this year's mission trip to Appalachia will be collecting after all the Masses in order to cover trip expenses including building supplies. Please be generous

Youth Mass~Saturday April 5th at 6:00 pm. Singers and musicians report at 4:30. We also need gift bearers and greeters!

Habitat For Humanity~Saturday April 5th. Meet at the Target in Harmar at 8:45. All teens and adults are welcome. Lunch will be provided. Teens must have a permission form. RSVP to the youth ministry office by Thursday.

MARRIAGE AMENDMENT

Thank you to everyone who participated in the postcard campaign on behalf of the Marriage Amendment. The Amendment has passed out of Committee and should be presented to the State Senate this session. You may still contact your local State Senator and ask him to sponsor the Marriage Amendment.

AQUINAS GUILD

The Aquinas Guild will meet on Tuesday, April 8, at 10 a.m. in the Pastoral Center. Following a brief business meeting, Mr. Brian McKain will present an interesting program on "IKEBANA", the art of Japanese Flower Arranging. Under his direction, some members will have the opportunity to create their own floral arrangement. Coffee and light refreshments will be served. All women of the parish are invited to attend.

CATHOLIC CHARITIES

Enjoy local bluegrass bands and help Catholic Charities' St. Joseph's House of Hospitality for formerly homeless senior men when you attend the 10th Annual Bluegrass Concert Benefit, Friday, April 18th, 7:30 p.m. at Synod Hall in Oakland. TERRI'S DAY, MARCH 31^ST

BULLETIN CONNECTION

This is the day the Lord has made. This is the day all other Sundays recall. This is the day that sums up our faith. This is the day the Lord rose triumphant from his grave. He wasn't pretending to be dead; he died. He wasn't performing a spectacular trick; he rose from his grave, alive. How can we grasp the magnitude of this miracle?

It is even more amazing that we are actually called to take part in this miracle. We, too, are called to rise to new life. The catechumens among us were buried with Christ in the waters of baptism at the Easter Vigil. They have risen to new life as Christians, have received the Holy Spirit and have eaten Christ's body and blood for the first time. The rest of us have once again died to sin and risen to a new beginning as disciples of the Lord. This is a new day. Let us be glad and rejoice in it.

EVENING OF REFLECTION FOR THOSE WHO ARE SEPARATED OR DIVORCED

The annulment process, or Declaration of Marriage Nullity, as it is properly called, is often misunderstood. Anyone interested in learning about this process is invited to attend a special program at St. Paul Seminary on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The presenter will be Fr. Brian Welding, Tribunal Judicial Vicar for the Diocese of Pittsburgh. This program is free and open to the public. A free will offering will be accepted. CATHOLIC CONVERSATIONS

"Catholic Conversations" is a monthly series that aims for informative, lively, and interactive talk on subjects related to faith. Our guest this month is Lisa Steindel, director of the Pittsburgh chapter of the American Jewish Committee, who will visit on Wednesday, March 26, from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. in the Pastoral Center. Ms. Steindel has been involved in a number of projects that encourage understanding among religious groups. The session will begin as an interview. As the interview develops into a conversation, people who attend will be welcome to join in it. Our conversation is expected to center on the theme of Jews and Christians getting to know each other. Adults and older teens are welcome to attend. There is no fee or registration.

BULLETIN CONNECTION

Jesus is the One who accepts the plan of God, even if he does not understand it. That is what we celebrate this day: acceptance. Do you believe that God has an overall plan for your life? Do you have anything to say about it? Or are you able to cooperate with that plan and work diligently to make it grow within your heart? That is what Jesus did. He did not know the plan but had faith to work in concert with God's providence.

PGHFaith

"Doubt in Christian Life" is the topic for this month's session of our Parish Group for Handing on the Faith (PGHFaith). The session will help you to reflect on your experiences of faith and doubt, so that you can understand yourself better and help others who face doubts. We will meet this Sunday, March 16, at 10:00 a.m. in Marsico Library off the back hallway of the Pastoral Center.

GETTING TO KNOW EACH OTHER

The Second Vatican Council sought to "encourage . . . mutual understanding and appreciation between Christians and Jews." Forty years later, this work continues. Our March guest for "Catholic Conversations" is Lisa Steindel, director of the Pittsburgh chapter of the American Jewish Committee. Ms. Steindel has extensive experience in fostering closer relations between Jewish and Christian communities. We will welcome her to St. Scholastica on Wednesday evening, March 26, at 7:30 in the Pastoral Center. The focus of our conversation will be "getting to know each other." If you attend, you will be welcome to join in the talk.

RESPECT LIFE COMMITTEE

Faith Heroes: Vacation Bible School~June 16-20^th~9:00-12:00~This is for youth ages 5-9. 10 year olds are welcome as Jr. counselors. Senior high students as counselors. This year, each day we will explore 2 different heroes of our faith: 1 man and 1 women. As usual the week will be loaded with fun and games, as well as faith. BULLETIN CONNECTION

The prophet Ezekiel cries out this message from God today, "O my people, I will open your graves and have you rise from them." The entire liturgy tells us we have nothing to fear from death. St. Paul tells us that if the Spirit of God lives in us we will live forever. Above all, today's Gospel reading about Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead deserves some special attention from us. Try to find some time to read the story again quietly to yourself. Many emotions are described here, so it is easy to place yourself somewhere in the story. We see Martha and Mary crying and we hear Martha's hurt disappointment toward Jesus. We see Jesus himself weep over the death of his friend and we wonder with Martha why he waited so long to come and help them. Finally, we hear the crystal clear call of Jesus to his friend: "Lazarus, come out!" The dead man came out; he returned to his life with his sisters. But notice that Jesus only invited him to come out. He didn't pull him out or force him back to life. How much courage did it take for Lazarus to leave a safe and peaceful grave to return to life?

And you – how much courage do you have to come out of whatever protective "tomb" where you might be hiding? When Jesus calls you to "Come out!" and to really live again, what will you do?

ADULT EDUCATION NOTES

"Doubt in Christian Life" is the topic for this month's sessions of our Parish Group for Handing on the Faith (PGHFaith). We will meet on Thursday, March 13, at 1:30 p.m. and on Sunday, March 16, at 10:00 a.m. in Marsico Library off the back hallway of the Pastoral Center. PGHFaith is a group of adults who are attending to our own spiritual growth so that we might better pass our faith on to the young people in our community. Any adult or teen is welcome to attend.

Our next guest for "Catholic Conversations" is Lisa Steindel, director of the Pittsburgh chapter of the American Jewish Committee. Ms. Steindel has participated in the Catholic–Jewish Education Enhancement Program, in which Jewish educators discuss their faith with Catholic high school students. We welcome her to St. Scholastica on Wednesday evening, March 26, at 7:30 in the Pastoral Center. "Catholic Conversations" is a monthly series that aims for informative, lively, and interactive talk on subjects related to faith. Adults and older teens are welcome to attend.
