WELCOME, SR. DOROTHY, NEW CDTCA PRINCIPAL!

 

I am pleased to announce that the Search Committee for our new principal has chosen Sister Dorothy Dolak, a Sister of Charity of Nazareth (formally "Vincentian Sisters of Charity), to be our new principal for the upcoming school year.  Sister Dorothy has experience as an elementary and secondary school teacher, as well as elementary school principal (most recently at St. Sebastian School in Ross Township).   Sister Dorothy has also been a Nursing Home and Adult Day Care Administrator.

After accepting the principal position in our school, Sister Dorothy wrote me: "I accept the position of principal at Christ the Divine Teacher Catholic Academy with much joy and excitement.  Your school has an excellent reputation.  As I take on this endeavor, I pray that I will be able to uphold the tradition of those who came before me and continue to offer quality Catholic education to the students of the school. I look forward to meeting and working with the staff and families of the children."

 I want to thank members of the Search Committee who devoted many hours and meetings to this process:  Ann Pilewski, Mary Ellen Maher, Tish Marisco, Bill Thomasmeyer and Joanne Saunders.

Lastly, I know I speak for the school community in thanking Mr. John Marino and his administrative assistant, Mrs. Ellen Kajder, for their hard and dedicated work for these past six years.  As a Marine, Mr. Marino has truly been "semper fidelis", "always faithful".   The whole school community will miss both of you greatly, but we are grateful for all your talents and energies to help our school excel in academics, as well as in our Catholic Traditions.

RCIA UPDATE

              As the Easter season closes, the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) changes focus again. We are still in the period of mystagogy, when our new Catholics are "led into the mysteries" of Christian living. Rather than meeting weekly, however, we will explore the experience of Christian living within the normal life of the St. Scholastica community. Over the next year, our new adult members, Gary Wiant and Heather Fuller, will participate in various activities and events while keeping in touch with the RCIA team. This weekend, we will be working alongside the regulars who package pastries for Nancy Heil's work with homeless persons.

We would like to commend Heather and Gary for their continuing commitment to the RCIA, along with their spouses Jason Fuller and Johanna Wiant. RCIA Team members Bernadine Bonessa and Clark Chilson were faithful companions to our new Catholics along the way, and Leslie Forney helped the team in the fall. We are also grateful to Scott Dillon, Carl Macino, and Sr. Pat Baker for sharing their time and experience with us. Also, thanks to the whole parish for your participation in the rites, your prayers, and your friendliness toward our new members.

If you know someone who might wish to become a Catholic, please urge him or her to learn about the RCIA. Pamphlets titled "How Do I Become Catholic" are available at the entrances to the church, and include contact information.

 

Religious Education

"Crocodile Rock" our new Vacation Bible School program begins June 15th. Registrations are still being accepted. Contact the youth ministry office or pick up a form in the back of the church.

 

MADONNA DELLA CIVITA SOCIETY

Immaculate Conception-St. Joseph Parish in Bloomfield will be having it's Annual Madonna Della Civita Feast Day Mass and Procession on Sunday, July 19, 2009 at 11:30 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church on Edmond Street. The Mass will include Italian music and a procession with the Madonna immediately following. Everyone is welcome to attend.

MARRIAGE ENCOUNTER

Financial pressures, the stress of parenting, differences between men and women, boredom, disillusionment---they can all scorch a relationship.  If you did not have an opportunity to see it at the movies, Worldwide Marriage Encounter is hosting a free viewing of "Fireproof: on Saturday June 27, 2009 at 7:00pm at Gilmary Retreat Center, 601 Flaugherty Run Road, Coraopolis, PA.  Spend a relaxing "movie night" with us and hear how the gift of a Marriage Encounter weekend can "Fireproof" your marriage. Snacks and beverages will be provided along with a few surprises. There is no cost, but a freewill offering will be accepted. Madonna of Jerusalem has reconciliation on Wednesday evening from 5:30-6:45 and Saturday from 3:00-4:00 p.m.
